The City Planning Division invites the public to view Module 1, the newly released draft of the Unified Development Chapter (UDC) of the City of Duluth Legislative Code. Module 1, the first of four, includes sections on general provisions, new zoning districts, and permitted uses for those districts. The UDC will replace Chapter 50, Zoning Regulations, and other sections of the City’s Code dealing with zoning and development.

The City hired the Clarion Associates team of Denver, Colorado, to assist Planning staff in drafting the new, contemporary land use regulations. The UDC will combine the City’s 50 year old policies into one unified document, incorporating contemporary approaches to neighborhood revitalization, mixed uses, and natural resource protection regulations. The community will benefit from a more streamlined review and approval process. The community is invited to review Module 1 on the city’s web site at http://www.duluthmn.gov/planning/udc/index.cfm. There will be a presentation and opportunity for input at a public meeting on September 17, 2009, at 6:00 PM in the Great Hall of the Depot. Feedback can be submitted on the City’s website for those unable to attend the meeting.
The UDC is anticipated to be adopted in summer 2010.
